Mountain Page

This page is under development.

In the 1970s, as a family project, we climbed the 46 Adirondak "high peaks" (those over 4000'). In the 1980s son Jeff and I started doing more serious climbs together, one result of which we are the first father-son team to climb the highpoint of each of the 50 US states. And there's more ...

ADK-46

On the summit of Whiteface Mt. (of winter olympics downhill ski fame). We started the ADK-46 project with Whiteface in the summer of 1974. At the time we lived in upstate New York; we finished the 46 in 1981 after moving to Oklahoma. Click this photo for more, a link to the ADK 46-R page, and our final reports on this great project.

50/50#1

Click this Denali summit self-photo for more on the 50 state highpoints, and the meaning of 50/50#1.

Colorado

Soon after completing the ADK-46 we began some bigger stuff in Colorado. This is on Beckwith, after negotiating our first "chimney", and was Jeff's first real Colorado climb; years later he would break the Colorado 14ers record - don't miss that story. (In the top photo the sun sets over the Sangre de Christos.)

Europe

On the summit of the Mettlehorn, with the Matterhorn in the background. Lots of climbs in Europe, including a harrowing narrow escape on Kebnekaise (Sweden).

The Americas

Looking down the summit ridge on Canada's highest point, Mt Logan in the Yukon. In addition to the Logan, this section also features mountains in Central and South America.

The Missed List

Alas, not all are successes. Here we regroup after a near miss on the Matterhorn. Other near (and not so near) misses are also chronicled here. Click to get the Aconcagua miss.
